Lilac Festival

This past Sunday was the Lilac Festival. In my opinion, one of the greatest street festivals Calgary has to offer. It was around 10 blocks of food vendors, jewelery, clothing, and the most random things you'd never thought people would sell. It reminded me of the night market in Richmond, BC (for those of you who have never been, it's a big tourist attraction sort of like a flea market that has grown bigger and bigger every year. you'll never see more asians in your life!). It was great to see how many restaurants and different cultures who participated. The weather was perfect: 20 degrees with a slight wind. There were times when I was walking in the shade and was actually cold! What I liked the most was the culture. Calgary isn't known for it's culture. We're known for the Flames and the Stampede. Having this festival educated Calgarians on the many different cultures of the world and it was awesome to see people enjoying it! I think the best part of the day for me was getting henna done. I've always wanted henna and we passed by many tents until I found one that was reasonably priced ($5 - $20) and who added sparkles for free! The sparkles only last until you peel off the paste but it still adds a nice touch for at least 4 hours! =)
